I can't see web pages outside of AU what should I do?



Internet Explorer

  • Open Internet Explorer - (You do not need to be connected to the Internet - you can work offline)
  • Go to Tools and select Internet Options
    Clicking on tools and options
  • From the window which appears select the Connections tab
    • Click on LAN Settings or if you are using VPN click on Aber VPN and then click on Settings

    • In the Settings window, under Automatic configuration , check the box to Automatically detect settings
    • Then tick the box to Use a proxy server ........and Bypass proxy server
      Webcache settings
    • Click on Advanced
    • Set the Proxy address to use as wwwcache.aber.ac.uk and the port to 8080
    • Tick the box to Use the same proxy server for all protocols
    • Under Exceptions add *.aber.ac.uk
      Webcache settings
    • Click  OK to close the Settings window
    • Click OK to close the Internet Options window

Firefox

These instructions were prepared for Firefox version 3.x If you have an older version the connection/proxy settings may be elsewhere within Tools and Options

  • Open Mozilla Firefox - (You do not need to be connected to the Internet - you can work offline)
  • Go to Tools and Options and Advanced
  • Select the Network Tab
  • Click on Connection Settings
  • Choose Manual proxy configuration:
    Webcache settings
  • Set the HTTP Proxy  to wwwcache.aber.ac.uk and the Port to 8080
  • Where it says No Proxy type *.aber.ac.uk
  • Click OK to close the Connection Settings window
  • Click OK to close the Options window
